horsemanship pattern 1

WESTERN HORSEMANSHIP OPEN. Entries to be worked individually on selected MSHSA Horsemanship pattern. Riders will be judged on seat, hands, ability to control and show horse, appointments, and suitability of horse to rider. Horsemanship only to count and performance of the horse is not to count unless the result of the contestant’s riding ability. Flying changes and fast spins are not required. Slow, consistent smoothness is preferred over a sloppy but fast run.

1. Walk 1/3 of arena. 6. Lope larger circle to right on right lead.
2. Trot 1/3 of arena and stop. 7. Change to left lead.
3. Back at least 15 feet and settle horse. 8. Lope small circle to left.
4. Turn left and walk to middle of arena. 9. Lope larger circle to left.
5. Lope small circle to right on right lead. 10. Drop to a walk and walk to judge.
